Copersucar – Cooperativa de Produtores de Cana-de-açúcar, Açúcar e Álcool do Estado de São Paulo, has completed transfer of the Centro de Tecnologia Copersucar, in Piracicaba, São Paulo, which has been outstanding in more than 30 years of technological research and development of this activity, to the national sugar-alcohol sector.
At the Assembly of August 2004, 24 members of the Administrative and Fiscal Boards took office, with the representative of Nova America, Roberto de Rezende Barbosa, being selected for the presidency of the Administrative Board, a position that is added to the function of Superintendent Director of the new Canavieira Technology Center (CTC).
The Canavieira Technology Center has 173 associates, which represent more than 55% of national production.
Therefore the CTC has benefited the productive chain to the extent that the successes of this center of excellence were immediately incorporated by a greater number of sugar cane, sugar and alcohol companies and production groups in Brazil.
The varieties of cane in São Paulo, which occupy around 50% of the area of the country planted with sugar cane; the genome project to identify the 50,000 genes of sugar cane; the production of biodegradable plastic; the creation of VVHP-type sugar that requires less effort in the industrial process; and the technology for using the waste from the sugar cane agro-industry for co-generating electricity, are some of the numerous conquests of the Copersucar Technology Center in its successful history, which contribute decisively to the national sugar-alcohol sector achieving global leadership.
The CTC – Canavieira Technology Center – has a background of great developments and an even more modern membership configuration and management model, prepared to develop projects that bring added value and high technology to the sugar cane production chain, and maintain the competitive leadership of Brazilian producers.
