Copersucar expands scale in the Crop 24/25 and positions itself as RNG Marketing and Distribution

The company traded the largest volume of sugar and ethanol in its history in Brazil and worldwide, strengthening its position as a global leader

Key highlights of the Crop 24/25:

  • Growth in net revenue (+15.3%) and net profit (+43%).
  • Historic year in sugar sales with 15.6 million tons and record exports (+21.4%); logistics operating at full capacity and strengthening its position as global leader.
  • Historic year in ethanol sales with 19.1 billion liters (Brazil + United States); driven by 23.4% growth in the North American market.
  • Sugar sales fed 630 million people in more than 70 countries.
  • Ethanol sales prevented the emission of 26 million tons of CO2, equivalent to the emissions of 12.5 million gasoline-powered vehicles.
  • Generation of 6.7 thousand GWh of renewable biomass electricity, equivalent to the annual consumption of the city of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
  • 6 million CBIOs generated (+16%).

São Paulo, June 17, 2025 – Copersucar, an ecosystem that offers renewable energy solutions and a global leader in sugar and ethanol, recorded one of the best results in its history in the Crop 24/25. With net revenue of R$ 62.3 billion (+15.3%), net income of R$ 402 million (+43%) was driven by record sugar exports and strong growth in ethanol distribution, especially in the North American market, in addition to a strong performance by logistics, which operated at full capacity.

“Even in a challenging climate and macroeconomic environment, we closed this Crop with the third-highest result in our history. This is the result of careful observation, extensive risk management, and assertive market positioning, and proves the robustness and strength of the Copersucar Ecosystem,” says Tomás Manzano, president of Copersucar.

The Crop 24/25 was marked by extreme weather conditions that impacted on the entire sugarcane sector, but even so, the Center-South region achieved the second-highest crushing volume in history, with 622 million tons. Copersucar’s partner mills gained market share for the seventh consecutive year, with a crushing of 107 million tons of sugarcane, a 2.7% decline, well below the Central-South region average (-4.9%).

Copersucar sold 15.6 million tons of sugar, with exports growing 21.4%. In ethanol, 19.1 billion liters were sold, driven by a 23.4% growth in sales in the United States, reflecting the entry of new partner distilleries (from 17 to 26) and the development of exclusive long-term contracts with Eco-Energy, which allowed the company to achieve a 15% share of the US domestic ethanol market.

This was also a historic Crop for the company’s logistics operation. The multimodal system (road, rail, pipeline, and maritime) operated at full capacity, standing out as an important competitive advantage.

Energy Transition and Food Security

The volume of ethanol sold in the Crop 24/25 in Brazil and the United States contributed to avoiding the emission of 26 million tons of CO2eq, which is equivalent to the emissions of 12 million gasoline-powered vehicles in one year – practically 1/3 of the Brazilian fleet of light vehicles. In the Renovabio Program, Copersucar’s associated mills generated 6 million CBIOs (decarbonization certificates) equivalent to 6 million tons of CO2 avoided, an increase of 16% over the previous Crop.

In sugar, the volume sold fed 630 million people and reached 70 countries this Crop, consolidating the Company as the largest sugar trader on the planet.

Copersucar also consolidated its entry into the renewable energy market this Crop through the acquisition of 50% of Newcom. The Copersucar Ecosystem generated 6,700 GWh of biomass energy—enough to supply a city like Rotterdam in the Netherlands for a year.

New Markets

With ethanol and biofuels gaining prominence on the global decarbonization agenda, Copersucar sees opportunities to expand its operations, especially in the areas of biogas/biomethane and sustainable fuels for the aviation (SAF) and maritime (biobunker) sectors.

“We remain attentive to future opportunities, especially with biogas and biomethane, a segment in which we have already begun to structure a trading company to capture the opportunities of this emerging market, which, in our understanding, will be transformative for the country,” says Manzano.

Competitively priced compared to fossil fuels, biomethane (purified biogas produced from sugarcane waste) is a fuel with multiple applications (industry, transportation, energy, and fertilizer) and reduces CO2 emissions by more than 90%. “The goal is for Copersucar to add the production of 2 to 4 million m3 of biomethane per day within about 10 years. The operation should follow the same model that Copersucar has in sugar, ethanol, and electricity: the mills produces and the company act as a RNG Marketing and Distribution”, adds Manzano.

About Copersucar: Copersucar offers renewable energy solutions that drive the energy transition and contribute to global food security. Organized as a unique and integrated ecosystem of specialized businesses, the company is a global leader in the commercialization of sugar and ethanol and operates an efficient multimodal logistics system. In ethanol, it meets Brazilian demand through Evolua Etanol and the North American market through Eco-Energy, which also operates in the commercialization of natural gas. In sugar, in addition to the domestic market, the company serves customers in more than 70 countries through Alvean. Copersucar also operates in the renewable electricity sector with Newcom and is a shareholder in Logum, the largest ethanol pipeline system in Brazil, and CTC (Sugarcane Technology Center), the largest sugarcane R&D center in the world.
