With Sponsorship from Copersucar, Santa Cecília University swimming team shines at the 2024 Olympic Games

The swimmers from Santa Cecília University in Santos (São Paulo, Brazil) concluded their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, making it to seven Olympic finals and setting historic records. Copersucar supports the program developed by the educational institution, which caters to around 150 developing and professional athletes.

The Unisanta team qualified eight athletes for Paris 2024: Ana Marcela Cunha, Guilherme Cachorrão, Mafe Costa, Beatriz Dizotti, Gabi Roncatto, Stephanie Balduccini, Maria Paula Heitmann, and Guilherme Basseto. Here are their individual achievements:

Ana Marcela Cunha – An Olympic champion in Tokyo 2021, the athlete finished her participation in these Games with a 4th place in the marathon swim held on the 8th in the Seine River. She made history by becoming the only athlete competing who also participated in the inaugural 10 km marathon swim event at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, at the age of 16.

Guilherme Cachorrão – In his second Olympics, the swimmer achieved 5th place in the final of the 400m freestyle and set a new American continent record in the event with a time of 3:42.76. This was his personal best. Additionally, he placed 12th with the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team and 19th in the 800m freestyle. He also competed in the marathon swim on August 9.

Mafe Costa – Making her Olympic debut, the athlete made history by becoming the first Brazilian to reach the top 8 in the 400m freestyle since 1948. In the 800m freestyle, she finished in 10th place, and in the 200m freestyle, she achieved the best position in Brazil’s history with 11th place. During the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay, she helped qualify the team after 20 years and secured 7th place in the final, while also breaking the South American record for the 200m freestyle in the first leg of the final with a time of 1:56.06.

Beatriz Dizotti – The swimmer also made history at the Olympics, representing Brazil for the second time. She became the first Brazilian to compete in an Olympic final in the 1500m freestyle, finishing in 7th place.

Gabi Roncatto – A veteran of the Olympic Games with three appearances, she was part of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team. She also achieved 16th place in the 400m freestyle and participated in the mixed 4x100m medley relay team.

Stephanie Balduccini – The swimmer participated in the women’s 4x200m and 4x100m freestyle relays, as well as being part of the mixed 4x100m medley relay team.

Maria Paula Heitmann – Making her Olympic debut, she took part in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay and helped the team secure 7th place in the final. She also assisted the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team in finishing 12th in the event.

Guilherme Basseto – In his second Olympic adventure, the swimmer was part of the mixed 4x100m medley relay team, finishing in 16th place in the event.
